2 April 2019 – Bengal Lancers 3 – 1 Dennistoun Thistle – Glasgow Green – KO 6.30pm
Friendly number 3 tonight and it was a last minute one after a week of pitch cancellations and searching for opposition who already had somewhere to play – but we got one, and it turned out to be a pretty decent game!
Bengal Lancers were tonight’s opposition. A well-established club, with teams in the SSMAFL and Sunday Central AFL. We were playing the Saturday team who currently play in the Premier Division so we knew we were up for a tough test, but yet again the boys turned up in numbers and we had 19 players to choose from – which might be why the manager tried to start the game with 12 men!
The first half was competitive and saw Dennistoun Thistle play our best 45 to date with the ball being passed out from the back and the team continually trying to press for a goal. At half time it was 0-0 and we were pleased with how things were going.
The second half was equally competitive with both teams having their fair share of chances in the opening 10 mins and by 65 mins the scoreline was 1-1 with both teams scoring quality goals.
The game was anyone’s to win at this point and you could see there was a determination about us to go on and get the win, but then a great shot from Bengal Lancers made it 2-1 and we were chasing the game.
Tiredness kicked in and despite trying to get an equalizer the team just couldn’t make it happen then in the last 5 mins of the game Thistle scored a cruel own goal making the final scoreline 3-1 to Bengal Lancers.
Another great experience for the team who are still learning to play together and the improvement can already be seen from the first two games.
We’re looking to play lots more friendlies in the run up to the 2019/20 season beginning, so if you have a team that’s looking for a bit of competition then let us know and we’ll be happy to arrange something!
We’re also still looking for players, fans and sponsors too, so if you’d like to be involved in some way or find out more about the club then please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be happy to talk.
