On Saturday 8 June Dennistoun Thistle held their first fundraising event – a race night, disco and prize draw.
As with your first time at anything the club were a bit nervous as to how the evening would go, but it went without a hitch! The races were run, the raffle was drawn and there were definitely some moves thrown on the dance floor (although it’s questionable if they were good!).
It wasn’t the busiest of nights, but the small crowd that were there were extremely enthusiastic and were in the betting mood! The 64 horses had names ranging from previous Grand national winners to names best left to the imagination but it was all done in good fun and there were a few audience pleasers including Soon to be Glue, Treble Treble, Thistle Thunder and of course Tiger Roll.
Our host Jamie did a great job of getting the crowd going and encouraging people to spend and his disco at the end got everyone up dancing. His most challenging job of the email was probably drawing the Prize Draw, as after captain Dunny’s last minute purchase of 10 (yes 10!) raffle tickets, finding one without his name on it was proving tricky! However all credit to him as he didn’t want any of the 3 prizes he was drawn out for and they were all redrawn and given to other lucky winners. All 30 prizes were drawn and should now be with their rightful owners.
Thank you very much to everyone who made it on the night and contributed to the evening being a success including the staff at the Reidvale centre who were friendly and helpful on the bar all night.
Also a big Thank you to those who offered donations including, Rangers Charity Foundation, Celtic Football Club, Partick Thistle Football Club, West brewery, Tennent’s Brewery, Celia and Alexander Mackenzie, Captain Dunny, Davie the keeper, and Deccy. Also a shout out to Abercromby vending, whose staff owned more than 50% of the horses racing! Thank you for allowing the sheets to be shared in your workplace over the last few weeks!
Your support is truly appreciated and the money raised will help us pay our league fees, buy playing insurance and some much needed training equipment for the club. We will no doubt be organising more fundraising events in the future and we hope to see you there!
We’re looking to play lots more friendlies in the run up to the 2019/20 season beginning, so if you have a team that’s looking for a bit of competition then let us know and we’ll be happy to arrange something! (we’re keeping our pre-season schedule up to date on social media, so check and see if there’s a date that suits you.)
We’re also still looking for players, fans and sponsors too, so if you’d like to be involved in some way or find out more about the club then please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be happy to talk.
