11 June 2019 – Dennistoun Thistle 2 – 0 Rosehill Thorns– Glasgow Green – KO 8pm
Last night Dennistoun Thistle took on Rosehill Thorns, a well established Saturday morning team that play in the Glasgow Colleges League Division 1. This was set up to be a good test of where we are as a squad and see what we could do against a side that were experienced and used to playing with each other.
The manager made the decision to take a slightly smaller squad of 18 to start getting players a bit more game time. Another couple of new trialists were invited along too as we edge ever closer to having to make a decision on our final squad for the season.
After last week’s defeat the team were keen to get back to winning ways, but at kickoff Thorns came out fast trying to win an early goal. The first 10 minutes were a bit frantic as Thistle tried to find their feet in the game, but once they settled Thistle were able to control most of the game.
The first half saw Thistle create a lot of chances and a minute before half time Thistle took the lead making it 1-0 at the break.
The second half was when Thistle really took control of the game, continuously pressing forward and trying to get another goal. Until 60 mins the team remained unchanged and the scoreline at 1-0.
The manager started making his changes to get the bench game time and all of the subs continued with the same determination as the starting 11. Our perseverance paid off and we finally got a second goal!
Thistle kept pushing right until the end with a few chances near the end of the game however none of them came off and the game ended 2-0 to Thistle. It was a solid team performance with the whole squad contributing and tonight saw Thistle keep their first clean sheet. Lots of positive signs of what’s to come…
Full time score: Dennistoun Thistle 2– 0 Rosehill Thorns.
