15 June 2019 – Dennistoun Thistle 3 – 1 Mill AFC– Glasgow Green – KO 10am
Yesterday morning Dennistoun Thistle took on Mill AFC, a well established and top quality team from Falkirk. Mill very kindly did us a favour and pulled together a team of primarily trialists in their break to allow us to get our first Saturday morning game, so although they were Mill in name, they were far from a full Mill AFC side. This was good though as it set things up for a good competitive game.
Our first Saturday morning game wasn’t just another test from a match point of view, but also a test to see if all the players would set their alarm clocks and be there on time, and credit to them they were still there in their numbers. We had a slightly smaller squad of 15 to allow for a bit more game time and this was ideal as everyone got plenty minutes under their belts.
After a midweek win the team were hoping to make it 2 wins in a row and that’s how they set out to play pushing for a goal early in the game and the team didn’t have to wait too long until it was 1-0. The first half was fiery in places and there were a few flash points, but Dennistoun Thistle managed to keep focus and before half time the score was 2 – 0 to Thistle.
The second half saw all the subs getting a run out and Thistle extend their lead to 3-0. Much of the game was one way traffic and on another day the score could possibly have been higher given the number of chances we had. However Mill AFC didn’t stop challenging either and they got a goal bringing the score back to 3-1 and giving them the feeling that they were back in the game. However Dennistoun managed to hold on until full time with the scoreline at 3-1.
Full time score: Dennistoun Thistle 3– 1 Mill AFC.
Thanks again to Mill AFC for scraping a team together last minute and making the trip through from Falkirk early on a Saturday morning!
