Tuesday 01 October 2019 – Dennistoun Thistle 7 – 4 Bellgrove – Drumoyne– KO 8pm

Due to the fantastic numbers that we’ve had consistently at training over the last couple of months we decided that this week we’d take on our first friendly since the season begun. This would allow us to get the lads who are coming back from injury, and who have been on the bench a bit recently some much needed competitive minutes and give them their chance to shine.

We had a squad of 18 show up with everyone ready to take their chance to impress. The match started strongly for us with a trialist scoring in just 4 minutes to open our goal tally for the night. During the first half we were controlling the game well and pushing towards Bellgrove’s goal for most of it. By half time the score was 3-0 thanks to 2 goals from Josh.

A few changes and the second half got underway and again we got off the mark quickly scoring our 4th on the 50th minute with Paul getting a goal. At this point we let Bellgrove back into the game a bit and they got one back, making the scoreline 4-1. This goal caused us to take notice again and realise that perhaps we’d become a bit complacent and it got a reaction from the players. With our 5th and 6th goals of the evening coming soon after.

At this point our lead looked comfortable and a few more substitutes were made to ensure that everyone got at least half an hour of game time. The most notable change at this point was to our goalkeeper to give Tam his first ever competitive run out as a keeper. It was certainly a lesson at being thrown in a the deep end and a combination of that, plus the team taking our foot off the gas meant Bellgrove pulled back another 2 goals, taking the scoreline to 6-3. A 7th goal from Dennistoun game on the 78th minute from Alex and despite conceding the previous 2 goals it looked like we’d be able to hold out for a win. Bellgrove scored another, but it didn’t affect the overall outcome and the game finished 7-4.

We wish Bellgrove all the best for the rest of the season! Was good to have a competitive friendly and help the manager and coaching staff get a proper look at some of our players who haven’t had much game time recently.

Saturday sees the start of our league as we welcome Woodhill to Whitehill Pitch for our first game of SECL Div 2
