Saturday 19 October 2019 – Mount Kirk 2 – 3 Dennistoun Thistle – Parklea – KO 10am
Today was our first away game in the league. The opposition was Mount Kirk, another of the teams that we faced in the group stages of the Athol Cup. The game that day was a feisty encounter with bookings and a close 4-3 scoreline in our favourites and we were expecting a tough game.
The game certainly lived up to expectations – both teams were pushing for the win right from the outset with both creating lots of chances and some tough tackles going in.
It only took 2 mins for the scoring to start – Mount Kirk taking the lead, but at 11 mins Jamie equalised for Dennistoun in his opening appearance for the club.
On 20 mins we took the lead with a goal from Aldo and that’s how the first half finished. It was clear that the second half would be just as feisty and a one goal lead wasn’t safe by any means.
The second half saw both teams pushing hard and creating chances, but it took until 77 mins for the next goal to come, and it was for Dennistoun thanks to Lucas. At this point we were hoping that would be enough to see out the game, but just minutes later Mount Kirk equalised and at 3-2 there were 10 mins left to determine the winner. The competition heightened and an incident at 89 mins saw a player from both teams being sent off.
A tough game today, but delighted that we were able to see it out and get another 3 points on the board
