Tuesday 12 November 2019 – Dennistoun Thistle 2 – 3 Greater Glasgow– Beith – KO 8pm
This week instead of our usual Tuesday night training we decided to take a friendly match. The main purpose being to get minutes into the legs of players who perhaps haven’t had much game time in recent weeks and to allow us to try a couple of new potential signings out.
The game was due to be played at Drumoyne, but a last minute cancellation from them due to issues with goals left us pitchless and wondering what we were going to do.
A bit of scrambling round by team and we managed to get a pitch… in Beith! Pretty sure some of the players thought that we were joking about our last minute change of venue, but credit to them and the opposition for all getting themselves down to Beith on what was a very cold night!
This perhaps was the game we might have been better not playing though, an extremely lack luster first half performance saw us being 3-0 down at half time and the quality of football on display was poor. Which was particularly disappointing after the great performance we’d seen on Saturday.
A bit of a rejig at half time and the second half started more brightly and we got back to scoring ways too with both Gerry and Aldo getting on the scoresheet.
By the end of the match the pitch had started to gather a layer of frost, but all credit to the players who turned up and didn’t complain about the cold.
Although not our best performance as with all friendlies they’re less about the result and more about the learning that comes out of them and ensuring that everyone has had enough game time to be match ready. Tonight’s game certainly did that, it highlighted areas that we need to improve in and was good to let lots of players lots of minutes who needed them.
All the best to Greater Glasgow for the rest of the season, nd a thank you to the Greater Glasgow player who helped Penny with his boots when he couldn’t feel his hands anymore! 😂
