Saturday 16 November 2019 – Glasgow Elim 3 – 2 Dennistoun Thistle – Neilston– KO 10am
Today saw us head to Neilston to face Glasgow Elim for the first time in the league. Elim are a long standing team in the churches league and we were looking forward to competing against them.
Having played them in pre season we knew to expect a well organised team who would look to get something out of the game and that’s exactly how it panned out. Both teams were competing hard and a lot of the game was getting played in the middle of the park with Elim setting out to frustrate Dennistoun and stop us getting forward. Then on 37 mins the deadlock was broken with a goal from Elim which they got on the break.
This spurred the squad on and at 41 mins Dennistoun equalised through Boab.
Dennistoun were next to score with Aldo getting the goal, but 5 mins later Elim scored, making it all square again. The game looked destined to stay that way as both teams had chances, but neither seemed to be having any luck to get that final bit of magic to hit the back of the net.
That was until the 91 min of the game when Elim scored giving them the lead. By this point the game was almost over and after Dennistoun kicked off the whistle was blown for full time.
In a very similar scenario to last week instead of being elated at a last minute winner this week we were completely deflated by one.
All credit to Glasgow Elim though, they pushed for the win the entire match and caught us out on the break and all the celebrations were deserved for them today.
Lessons to be learned after today for us, but we go straight back into training on Tuesday to see if we can start putting some of it right!
