Saturday 14 December 2019 – Trinity 3 – 2 Dennistoun Thistle – Dalziel Park – KO 10am

After qualifying from the group stages of the Athol SECL Div 2 League Cup it was time to play the first leg of our Semi-final against Trinity AFC, one of the teams who had qualified from the other group in the competition.

The game started off pretty evenly matched with Dennistoun perhaps having the better of the chances in the opening 20 mins, but nothing that we were able to put away. It wasn’t until 41 mins into the game that the first goal came and it was for Trinity. However Dennistoun responded quickly and just before half time Boab scored to make it all level for going into the second half.

We opened the second half positively and within 2 minutes Jimmy scored to give Thistle the lead. Now we had to try and hold onto it, but on 50 mins Trinity equalised and it was all even yet again.

For the next 20 mins the game was end to end with both teams trying to push to get a winner in the first of the two legged tie and on 70 mins Trinity scored to give them the lead.

Despite the efforts of the Dennistoun team and a couple of very good chances, we were unable to get another goal and that’s how the game ended.

This means that we go into the second leg of the tie a goal down. Given the nature of the game though and the number of chances created it’s still definitely all to play for in the second leg next week…

Full time score: Trinity 3 – 2 Denistoun Thistle
