Saturday 11 January 2020 – Dennistoun Thistle 6 – 2 Croftfoot– Stepford – KO 10am

After a few weeks of rest and relaxation over Christmas it’s time to start preparing for the second half of the season! After a busy training session on Tuesday night with 20 in attendance we decided to take a friendly this weekend to get some minutes in the leg, check out a couple of new trialists and dust the cobwebs off after the Christmas break.

Our opposition was Croftfoot, who were in a similar position to us and looking for some game time before the league starts back. The game was played in the most miserable conditions we’ve experienced since we started we heavy rain that showed no sign of stopping and a cold and strong wind, meaning that on occasion the ball had a mind of it’s own.

However a little bit of rain couldn’t stop us and 6 mins in Penny opened the scoring from us. Although we hadn’t played for a few weeks you wouldn’t have known and a second goal from Josh on 15 mins and a 3rd from Aldo at 19 mins meant that the game looked pretty comfortable early on.

On 28 mins we were awarded a free kick just outside the box in a not too dissimilar position to one earlier in the season against St Francis where Penny had scored and he did it again this time, hitting the back of the net and leaving us to go in 4-0 up at half time.

4 changes at the break to ensure everyone was getting plenty minutes and we went out again with purpose and 5 mins into the second half Dec got our 5th of the game. At this point it’s fair to say we took our foot off the gas a wee bit and parts of play got a little bit slack leading to a goal from Croftfoot.

A 6th goal for Dennistoun came on the 61st minute and at that point the game was all but over (given the terrible weather there were shouts from both teams to call it early!) but credit to Croftfoot who kept going for goal and were rewarded with a second before the end of the game.

Both trialists did well and have since signed with the club, so we look forward to seeing what they have to offer once the competitive games start.

Thank you to Croftfoot for the friendly!

Training on Tuesday night before the league starts back next weekend with a home game against Glasgow Free. Can’t wait to get going with the competitive stuff again!
